Strategic direction emerges from shared objectives

I recently had the opportunity to work with some of our customers to clarify their objectives for the next phases of major transformation programs. When dealing with large changes, we often feel the urge to move forward quickly to maintain momentum. However, taking the time to engage in meaningful dialogue with steering group colleagues to clarify the common objectives for the program remains a key component of successful execution.

It may not always be possible to meet all expectations within the organization, especially if there is a significant legacy need for change. However, spending time to truly listen to each other, understand the expectations and concerns of others, and then reach a decision on what to do and what not to do is crucial. This process also builds a foundation for true commitment to the program, even when the decision does not fully align with one’s own expectations.

Being a member of a steering group in a major transformation program can be one of the most important roles a company may have and brings with it a considerable amount of responsibility for the successful future. Fostering open and honest conversations among colleagues also during the program will guarantee the best outcomes even when encountering often unavoidable challenges during the journey.
